Many of us have experienced an auto insurance increase of 10% to 20% (or higher) back in 2024 and 2025 might be the same way. If your insurance agent hasn’t called you to talk about it, it’s not because they’re indifferent to your cost increases.
It’s funny to say, but calling clients isn’t always the most efficient way to reach them. It’s all about timing. Your agent doesn’t know when you’re available and, in the mood, to talk about your insurance (we know it’s not an easy mood to slip into). What usually results is a game of phone tag. And if an agent does some research, shops other insurance companies, then reaches out to a client, and the client can’t be reached, that’s non-productive at best. It happens more than you’d think.
Are you wondering what your insurance agent is doing all day if they aren’t calling people about their insurance?
Your agent is engaged in the fulfilling task of helping people do better with their insurance. Which people? Usually, it’s people who call them, ready to talk about their insurance. When you call your agent, with all of your information in hand, and are ready to work through the details of your policy, this turns out to be a very effective use of time. Sure, your agent might already be on the phone, but now they know you’re ready for a serious conversation and they’ll get back to you as soon as they can. The reality is that an insurance agent is more likely to respond to a phone call or email from you, than you are to respond to a phone call or email from them.
Occasionally, a client will decide to take their price increases personally. Big computers using huge databases crank out insurance renewals using rates that are pre-approved by the State of Michigan. Nobody is targeting anyone specifically. If you want to be heard and helped, get your mail from the insurance company, a pen and paper, sit down and grab your phone and call your agent for a good conversation! Or, send them an email to let them know the best times to call you. You’ll be glad you did!
