It seems insurance agents are just about the last person to call when something changes in people’s worlds! The response to this question is usually “why would I call my insurance agent, they’ll just charge me more money!” Like, we don’t have feelings? Fine then. Here are 10 good reasons to call us!
1. If you’re no longer working (for real) you won’t need the wage loss coverage on your auto policy, this can be removed, and you can save a few bucks.
2. If you’ve paid off your house, you might get a discount on your home owner policy.
3. If you get a new roof or a centrally monitored alarm system, there’s a discount for each of these.
4. Has your financial situation improved? Switch to annual pay because there could be a nice discount for that!
5. Got enough in the bank that you could comfortably repair or replace your car if you had to? Consider removing physical damage coverage, or at least increase your deductible.
OK, it’s not all about discounts, it’s also about helping you protect you and your family better from financial loss.
6. If you remodel any part of your home, it might be time to increase the limit for “Coverage A” on your homeowner policy.
7. Your limit for water/sewer backup coverage may need to be raised if you remodeled your basement. Even if you don’t want to increase these limits, the “guaranteed replacement cost” endorsement on your homeowner policy might shut off if you don’t tell your agent about the upgrade to your home.
8. If your child is no longer a resident relative, they need to have their own auto policy. If they’re still driving a car titled to you, sell it to them for $1 and tell them to spend their money on an auto policy. Family members who don’t live with you are not going to be covered by your auto policy’s medical coverage.
9. Inherit something of value? Make sure you understand how your homeowner policy will cover the item.
10. Co-sign a loan or get your name added to a deed? This could create an exposure to a lawsuit that you can address with insurance.
There you have it. TEN reasons to contact your insurance agent to have a good conversation about your insurance world!
